    • C is an H′ cone. It is not stated if the figure is for major axis a or minor axis b so both surfaces must be analyzed. The analysis for a (b) is as follows: The innermost H′ loop must contain a maximum (minimum), so its loop sign is positive (negative). By inheritance, the loops of the two surrounding figure eights and the inner loop of the large reentrant saddle must also be positive (negative), so the outer loop of this saddle is negative (positive). The outer loop of the small reentrant saddle is therefore also negative (positive), and the inner loop of this saddle is positive (negative). Because C is a cone, both for a and for b it must be an H′ cone.
