15. Typical procedure:The aldehyde (5 mmol) and the amidine (5 mmol) were refluxed with a catalytic amount of p-toluenesulfonic acid in 5 mL dry toluene for 2 h. Afterwards the reaction mixture was cooled down and the desired imines precipitated. The solid imines were collected and used in the next reaction step without further purification.
