Diagnostic performance of nanoparticle-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of lymph node metastases in patients with endometrial and cervical cancer
-
Rockall AG, Sohaib SA, Harisinghani MG, et al. Diagnostic performance of nanoparticle-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of lymph node metastases in patients with endometrial and cervical cancer. J Clin Oncol 2005; 23:2813-2821. This study included 44 patients with endometrial (n = 15) or cervical (n = 29) cancer. Two independent observers viewed the MR images before lymph node sampling which was performed in all patients. On a patient-by-patient basis, the precontrast vs. postcontrast sensitivity was 27 vs. 100% with no loss of specificity. The kappa statistic was 0.93.

A pilot study of lymphotrophic nanoparticle-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging technique in early stage testicular cancer: A new method for noninvasive lymph node evaluation
-
Harisinghani MG, Saksena M, Ross RW, et al. A pilot study of lymphotrophic nanoparticle-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging technique in early stage testicular cancer: a new method for noninvasive lymph node evaluation. Urology 2005; 66:1066-1071. The study prospectively enrolled 18 patients with stage I testicular cancer. Nodal sampling was performed by CT-guided biopsy or laparoscopic surgery. The sensitivity and specificity of size criteria for detecting malignant nodes were 70.5 and 68%, respectively, while the sensitivity and specificity of MR lymphography were 88.2 and 92%, respectively.
