The coordinate system in D∅ is right-handed, with the (Formula presented) axis pointing in the direction of the proton beam (south); the (Formula presented) axis horizontal, with the positive direction away from the center of the accelerator; and the (Formula presented) axis, up. The origin of this coordinate system is centered at the midpoint of the detector where the nominal beam intersection would occur. Radial directions are measured from that point. Polar angles θ are measured with respect to the (Formula presented) axis, and azimuthal angles, φ, are measured with respect to the (Formula presented) axis. Pseudorapidity is defined as (Formula presented) where θ is the polar angle with respect to the proton beam.
