    • The thienyl tetrayne 1, which has a carbonyl functional group, was selected because 1 can cycloaromatize at room temperature, whereas no cycloaromatization of thienyl tetrayne possessing a hydroxy group takes place at room temperature. The phenyl tetrayne 9, which has a hydroxy functional group, was selected because 9 can cycloaromatize at room temperature, whereas cycloaromatization of phenyl tetrayne possessing a carbonyl group rapidly decomposes at room temperature.
