The Pashtuns, representing 42 per cent of the population, are the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan. Ethnic Tajiks represent 27 per cent of the population. The Hazaras, represent another 9 per cent. Other groups, such as the Aimaks, Turkmen, Baluch, Uzbek, comprise the rest.
