    • This technique was originally known as “exponentiation” and was first used in S. Gottlieb, P. Mackenzie, H. Thacker, and D. Weingarten, Phys. Lett. 134B (1984) 346; though it was discovered independently in Ref. 6. An alternative formulation, called the “source method” or “sequential source technique,” is identical to exponentiation for the applications discussed in Ref. 6 (but not for those discussed in Gottlieb et al., above!), and is much easier easier to understand and to generalize. It first appeared in Ref. 12 and in R. Gupta et al., Phys. Lett. 164B (1985) 347.
