The Cardiac Arrhythmia Suppression Trial (CAST) Investigators. Preliminary report: effect of encainide and flecainide on mortality in a randomized trial of arrhythmia suppression after myocardial infarction. N Engl J Med 1989;321:406-12. This trial revolutionised therapeutic thinking, challenged the concept of using antiarrhythmic drugs simply to suppress ventricular ectopics alone, and highlighted the proarrthythmic potential of class Ic antiarrhythmic drugs in patients with heart disease.

Radiofrequency catheter ablation of premature ventricular complexes from right ventricular outflow tract improves left ventricular dilation and clinical status in patients without structural heart disease.
