Epithelial mesenchymal transition is a ubiquitous physiologic process and has gained increasing attention because of the central role of cellular transition in fibrosis and metastatic transformation in malignancy. This paper describes a follow-up study from an early paper by the same group that clearly identified epithelial mesenchymal transition in peritoneal dialysis patients. In this study, they have associated epithelial mesenchymal transition with angiogenesis through the production of vascular growth factors by transdifferentiated cells.
