As another possibility for the production of 12, reversible ring opening of 2 by palladium followed by the direct cyclization from the π-allyl complex 13′ or 14″ would be occurred (see Refs. 5c and 5d). However, no reaction has occurred from a reaction of the isolated cyclic carbonate 2a with palladium catalyst. The result implies that cyclic carbonate 2 is produced irreversibly.
