Located on Long Island, Forest Hills Gardens was an estate planned by Frederich Olmsted, the younger, and developed by the Sage Foundation Homes Company. Its design featured clear boundaries on two sides, a differentiated local street system, the public school at a central location and variations in house size and cost, among others. It was built on 175 acres of open land and had a population of nearly 4000 by 1923. Perry was one of the earliest residents when the first homes were occupied in 1912. He played an active role in the development of various community facilities.
