24. To the best of our knowledge, the first N-arylated TACN was reported in 2000 (I. A. Fallis, R. D. Farley, K. M. A. Malik, D. M. Murphy, H. J. Smith, J. Chem. Soc., Dalton 2000, 20, 3632). Its preparation involved a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction starting from 1a and ortho-fluoronitrobenzene. A SciFinder search on January 3, 2006 revealed that since then less than 10 reports have dealt with N-aryl-substituted TACNs. Most of them describe the use of such derivatives in polymerization reactions and the dyeing of keratinic fibers.
