    • Fast functional imaging of single neurons using random-access multiphoton (RAMP) Microscopy
    • The authors used multi-photon imaging in brain slices to visualize dendritic calcium transients in pyramidal neurons that are caused by back-propagating action potentials. Fast discontinuous AOD-based scanning was used for concurrent functional imaging from multiple user-selected sites. Initial structural images obtained with the same instrument were used to select recording sites.

    • Fast three-dimensional laser scanning scheme using acousto-optic deflectors
    • This study is the first demonstration of high-speed 3D laser scanning that does not require any moving optical components. The inertia-free discontinuous scanning scheme relies entirely on electronically controlled diffractive elements. The scanner design is specifically suited for ultrafast laser sources as they are employed for multi-photon microscopy and inherently compensate for dispersion effects.
