    • On the basis of the particle diameters and the density of amorphous silica (2.2 g/mL) the dye content of a single DDN can be estimated to be about 70 molecules per particle. However, the reliability of such estimation is greatly affected by the difficulty to measure the real particles density.

    • The difference between the absorption spectra observed for 1np in water and ethanol seems to indicate that ethanol can penetrate the particle core and cause disaggregation of the included dyes.
