In the “reaction cavity principle” formulated there it is postulated that the product molecules must fit into the cavity as well as possible for solid solutions to form in the starting crystal, and that the product crystallizes out when the solubility limit is exceeded. For cinnamic acid, it is suspected that up to 50 % conversion might occur prior to recrystallization.
