1. Babbie, E. (1990), Survey Research Methods, 2nd ed., Wadsworth Publishing, Belmont, CA. I have been a big Babbie fan for many years, and this is the book I turn to when I need help. Written with a humorous tone and with great examples, it is an excellent place to begin, and includes useful context on the research process as well.
2. Fink, A. and Kosecoff, J. (1998), How to Conduct Surveys: A Step-by-Step Guide, 2nd ed., Sage Publications,Thousand Oaks, CA. A very practical and useful guide to survey methodologies, with lots of interesting examples (largely but not exclusively from the health sciences), well written and quite comprehensive given that it is only about 100 pages long. A handy tool for reference
