Laparoscopic hysterectomy: Challenges and limitations
-
Mettler L, Ahmed-Ebbiary N, Schollmeyer T. Laparoscopic hysterectomy: challenges and limitations. Min Inv Ther 2005; 14:145-159. This study clearly describes and illustrates the different types of laparoscopic hysterectomy: LAVH, TLH, classic intrafascial supracervical hysterectomy (CISH), laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LSH) and radical laparoscopic vaginal hysterectomy (RLVH). It concludes that these techniques are advantageous to patients if performed by experts for the appropriate indication.

Laparoscopy versus laparotomy in endometrial cancer: First analysis of survival of a randomised prospective study
-
Tozzi R, Malur S, Koehler C, et al. Laparoscopy versus laparotomy in endometrial cancer: first analysis of survival of a randomised prospective study. J Minim Invasive Gynecol 2005; 12:130-136. This is a prospective randomized controlled trial. It demonstrates that laparoscopic vaginal treatment of patients with endometrial cancer provides a survival outcome comparable to laparotomy.

Methods of hysterectomy: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
-
Johnson N, Barlow D, Lethaby A. Methods of hysterectomy: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials. BMJ 2005; 330:1478. This systematic review and metanalysis looked at trials comparing routes of hysterectomy for benign disease. They concluded that vaginal hysterectomy is preferable to abdominal hysterectomy, where possible. When vaginal hysterectomy is not possible, laparoscopic hysterectomy is preferable to abdominal hysterectomy, although it brings a higher chance of bladder or ureter injury.
