    • Time-delayed fluorescence that is not demodulated at low modulation frequencies lowers the depolarization ratio by polarization scrambling caused by rotational relaxation between excitation (scattering) and emission. Therefore, any value for the depolarization ratio between 1 and 2.5 can be considered indicative of octopolar symmetry, if values lower than 1.3 can be attributed to fluorescence-induced polarization scrambling and if values larger that this, but still smaller than 2, are corroborated with significant dipolar solvent contribution to the MRS signal.
