We distinguish between the circuit-based and cluster-based paradigms for quantum computation. In the former paradigm the computation is effected by transforming the input state into the output state by passing the qubits through a suitable sequence of gates that comprise a computational circuit. In the latter paradigm, the computation is effected by performing suitable measurements on constitutents of a cluster state. In fact, these two paradigms are unified in the framework provided by the Quantum Computer Condition (cf. G. Gilbert, M. Hamrick, and F. J. Thayer, e-print quant-ph/0507141).
