    • Our model includes only the coupling between the heavy, light, and SO bands. A more rigorous approach should include the effects of other bands starting, for instance, from an eight-band k-p theory such as described by G. A. Baraff and D. Gershoni, Phys. Rev. B 43, 4011 (1991). The concept of effective potential wells and the onset of antiresonances described here would still hold in this approach.

    • The axial approximation is commonly used to calculate the optical and electrical properties of heterostructures. See, for instance, A. C. R. Bittencourt, A. M. Cohen, and G. E. Marques, Phys. Rev. B 57, 4525 (1998), and references therein.

    • A more accurate analysis should relax this approximation, starting for instance with the new envelope function formalism of M. G. Burt, J. Phys.: Condens. Matter 4, 6651 (1992). This would lead to hole antiresonances whose locations would not only depend on the magnitude but also on the orientation of the transverse wavevector.
