In defence of state immunity: Why the UN convention on state immunity is important

In addition to barring the statute's application to proceedings instituted before its entry into force, the UK Act did not apply to any submission to the jurisdiction or consent to enforcement prior to that date or to the application of any exception to immunity for a transaction or contract of employment entered into prior to the Act's entry into force; thus common law rules continued to govern these matters
