J Am Coll Cardiol 2004; 43:120-124. This study raises the concern that children with Kawasaki disease complicated by CAAs may be predisposed to premature atherosclerosis in adulthood. In fact, they display an adverse cardiovascular risk profile (low HDL and apo-A1 but high apoB1 levels, and increased peripheral arterial stiffness) after resolution of acute inflammation.
