The carboxyl-terminal portions of UGT1A isoforms are identical due to exon sharing during transcription and RNA processing. In contrast, the human UGT2B proteins are encoded by individual genes on chromosome 4, but the C-terminal halves of the different UGT2B isoforms display high sequence similarities.

Basic Terminology of Stereochemistry (IUPAC Recommendations 1996)
-
The authors prefer the term "diastereoselective glucuronidation" over "enantioselective glucuronidation," although the latter is often encountered in the literature. However, the products of the UGT-catalyzed glucuronidation, the glucuronide of the (R)-enantiomer and the glucuronide of its respective (S)-enantiomer, are related as diastereomers. Therefore, the UGT-catalyzed conjugation is diastereoselective provided that the formation of one of the two diastereomers is favored (Moss, G. P. Basic Terminology of Stereochemistry (IUPAC Recommendations 1996). Pure Appl. Chem. 1996, 68, 2193-2222). This preferential formation of one diastereomer over the other is also termed substrate-product stereoselectivity or substrate-product stereospecificity.

The maximum inhibition attained by the enantiomers of the lipophilic alcohols 11-13 ranged merely between 9.1% and 55%, even though the scopoletin concentration was lowered to 50 μM. However, the enantiomers of each compound showed similar inhibition levels at the highest concentration of 0.10 mM. Therefore, the enantiomers of these lipophilic compounds exerted similar affinities to the enzymes (cf. Supporting Information).
