A novel HLA-A*3303-restricted minor histocompatibility antigen encoded by an unconventional open reading frame of human TMSB4Y gene

Torikai H, Akatsuka Y, Miyazaki M, et al. A novel HLA-A*3303- restricted minor histocompatibility antigen encoded by an unconventional open reading frame of human TMSB4Y gene. J Immunol 2004; 173:7046-7054. This study shows that the TMSB4Y gene encodes a class I MHC-restricted H-Y antigen in what was heretofore considered its 5′-untranslated region, suggesting that the protein products of this gene are more extensive than was previously thought.

Antibody response to DBY minor histocompatibility antigen is induced after allogeneic stem cell transplantation and in healthy female donors
-
Miklos DB, Kim HT, Zorn E, et al. Antibody response to DBY minor histocompatibility antigen is induced after allogeneic stem cell transplantation and in healthy female donors. This study demonstrates that DBY stimulates antibody responses in a large fraction of sex-mismatched allogeneic HCT recipients, and suggests that the concept of a minor H antigen as the target of an allogeneic T cell response should be expanded to encompass the occurrence of humoral responses to alloantigens.

Antibody responses to H-Y minor histocompatibility antigens correlate with chronic graft-versus-host disease and disease remission
-
Miklos DB, Kim HT, Miller KH, et al. Antibody responses to H-Y minor histocompatibility antigens correlate with chronic graft-versus-host disease and disease remission. Blood 2005; 105:2973-2978. This study demonstrates a high prevalence of antibody responses to Y chromosome gene products in sex-mismatched (female → male) allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant recipients and a correlation with chronic GVHD as well as maintenance of disease remission, suggesting a role for humoral responses against H-Y antigens in both GVT activity and chronic GVHD.

Whole-genome patterns of common DNA variation in three human populations
-
Hinds DA, Stuve LL, Nilsen GB, et al. Whole-genome patterns of common DNA variation in three human populations. Science 2005; 307:1072-1079. This is a comprehensive analysis of common DNA variation in the human genome, which suggests that the total number of potential minor H antigens is likely to be quite large.
