    • Strictly speaking, the band structure of MgB2 is composed of four bands: two σ bands and two π bands (see, e.g., Ref.). However, in real samples the scattering rate between the bands of the same family is usually high while the scattering of electrons between the different families is rather weak (Ref.). In this situation scattering homogenizes superconductivity inside both band families and superconductivity in magnesium diboride is effectively described by the two-band model. To simplify terminology, in the rest of the paper we use term " σ band" (" π band") for the family of σ bands (π bands).
