A. R. Edmonds, Angular Momentum in Quantum Mechanics (Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ, 1960). Although nuclear physicists almost universally denote the total nuclear angular momentum by J→, we have chosen to use S→ instead. This more closely conforms to conventional usage in atomic physics. Nuclear physicists should be careful not to confuse our S→ with the simple sum of individual nucleon spins.

This reference tested an impulse approximation formula (which is quite accurate, though not exact) for the trinucleon magnetic moments that is based on an SU(4) decomposition: μ=12(μp+μn)[1-2PD]-12(2T3)(μp-μn)[1- 43PS'-23PD]+12PD[1+13(2T3)], where the P states have been ignored, and PS' and PD are the probabilities of the S' and D states, respectively. The quantity (2T3) is +1 for He3 and -1 for H3.

These papers are noteworthy because they calculate the sub-leading-order correction to the deuterium hfs in zero-range approximation. We have calculated only the leading order here, but have done so in the spirit of traditional nuclear calculations, while also calculating tritium and 3He+.
