The World Trade Organization became operational on 1 January 1995. As of 24 July 1996, one hundred and twenty-two governments have accepted the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization. Another thirty governments have requested to join the WTO. Their applications are currently being considered by accession working parties
