A News Letter poll asked: 'Should the Secretary of State end suspension of the Stormont Institutions or continue with direct rule?' Twenty-seven per cent of unionists surveyed favoured ending suspension without further progress on decommissioning; 57% favoured ending suspension if the IRA pledged it 'would never again use weapons under any circumstances'; and 76% favoured ending suspension if 'the IRA decommissioned all weapons and disbanded'.
