    • During IR spectral measurement from -0.2 V till +1.1 V (by a step of 100 mV), which took about 3-5 min at each potential, about 2/3 of original Pd could be stripped as evidenced by the voltammograms in 10 mM HCOOH solutions. In fact, the oxidation current on the Pd surface (at +0.15 V) was reduced to ca. 1/3, while that on Pt (at +0.65 V) increased prominently as seen in Fig. 5e. Accordingly, it is necessary to use the reference potential at +0.6 V instead of +1.1 V. In addition, it was confirmed that most of Pd desorbs from the Pt surface when the potential is kept at +1.3 V for >10 min.
