The aspect ratio for an oblate and prolate spheroid is defined here as the ratio of minor to major axis so that the value lies between 0 and 1. This is done to maintain consistency with the majority of the previous research work discussed in this section. The more common convention is to define the oblate spheroid aspect ratio as < 1.0 whereas the prolate aspect ratio is calculated as the ratio of major to minor axis so that its value is always > 1.0.
