The transcriptional activation program of human neutrophils in skin lesions supports their important role in wound healing

K. Theilgaard-Monch, S. Knudsen, P. Follin, and N. Borregaard The transcriptional activation program of human neutrophils in skin lesions supports their important role in wound healing J Immunol 172 2004 7684 7693 This study demonstrates that neutrophil migration to skin lesions in vivo induces a transcriptional programme that supports wound healing, and directs proinflammatory as well as transient anti-apoptotic activity in absence of bacterial contamination.

The transcriptional program of terminal granulocytic differentiation
-
K. Theilgaard-Monch, L.C. Jacobsen, R. Borup, T. Rasmussen, M.D. Bjerregaard, F.C. Nielsen, J.B. Cowland, and N. Borregaard The transcriptional program of terminal granulocytic differentiation Blood 105 2005 1785 1796 This study characterizes the transcriptional programme of neutrophil differentiation in vivo by comprehensive microarray analyses of highly purified bone marrow populations representing successive stages of differentiation. These analyses identify novel granule protein candidates and surface receptors of neutrophils. Importantly, the study defines a neutrophil differentiation model, which is characterized by a highly coordinated fail-safe programme that promotes completion of differentiation before cells gain responsiveness toward activating stimuli that accompany infections.
