22. The crystal structure of 11a was established by X-ray crystallography (see Section 4). Since the space group is centrosymmetric, the crystals are racemic. The trans-amide group is planar. The amide NH group forms an intramolecular hydrogen bond with the hydroxy O-atom, while the hydroxy group forms an intermolecular hydrogen bond with the O-atom of the amide group in the centre of the molecule of a neighboring molecule, thereby linking the molecules into extended chains.
