    • -, and not weak acids (that is, general acids), can catalyze the reaction. The definition applies to chemical catalysts in solution. Many enzymes accelerate specific-acid- or specific-base-catalyzed reactions by using general acid-base catalysis. Achieving this mechanistic change requires the contributions of the enzyme binding pocket, such as substrate immobilization. See also: W. P. • note
    • Even when considering that approximately 25 % of the 45 monoclonal antibodies obtained in the immunization series against hapten 71 leading to antibody 14D9 showed catalytic activity, an overview of other immunization series shows that the occurrence of catalysis is often not statistical by numbers of monoclonal antibodies but correlates with individual mice, a fact implying that success may be tied to obtaining viable monoclonal antibodies from a "catalytic" mouse.
