Eur Heart J 2000; 21:1387-1396. • An important concept with respect of validation of the CMR technique. Comparisons of data provided by CMR, two-dimensional echocardiography and radionuclide ventriculography may be useful for guiding clinical practice. However, they are less useful for absolute validation because of the wide discrepancies they show in comparison with CMR, because of their lower accuracy.

Am Heart J 2004; 147:218-223. •• A study of the interstudy reproducibility of ventricular volumes, ejection fraction and mass as measured by CMR and two-dimensional echocardiography, performed on two occasions, in normal volunteers, patients with heart failure or left ventricular hypertrophy. This also demonstrates the importance of the technique within research applications due to the higher reproducibility of CMR and therefore the lower calculated sample sizes to show changes in left ventricular dimensions and function.
