    • The relationship between mass and number of reactive sites is likely homomorphic: at each mass position there is probably some distribution of numbers of sites. This distribution will certainly become progressively broader with increasing mass, as there are more ways to make many errors than to make few (or none). This effect will also contribute to the broadening in a largely linear fashion.

    • The free nitroxide lacks the dipole broadening sustained by dendrimer-bound spin-labels at high loadings. It therefore gives rise to a narrow spectral contribution that diminishes the value of A/B in the total spectrum. We have found that size exclusion chromatography to remove the unreacted TEMPO brings an even better congruence to the A/B data.

    • To clarify this point, the width of a composite line composed of two Gaussians of equal area, one with finite width, a, and the other with infinite width, is, identically, a.
