    • The structure of small odd carbon clusters is still under debate, as ab initio and density-functional calculations do not predict the same lowest-energy isomers. For even sizes, the general agreement is in favor of the linear geometry. It is not our purpose here to discuss these issues, therefore we did not attempt to modify the model we chose to describe these systems.
