    • The work can be subjected to criticism concerning the manner in which thermodynamic properties are calculated. For example, the enthalpy and entropy of an equilibrium-associating system should be obtained by differentiating the free energy with respect to fixed amount of the macroscopic components (i.e., the total initial monomer concentration) of the system, whereas Ref. takes the amounts of the microcomponents (i.e., the chains with given polymerization indices) to be fixed, which implies the existence of a "frozen" equilibrium, an assumption that is not generally correct [see I. Prigogine and R. Defay, Chemical Thermodynamics (Longmans, London, 1967)].
