Lifestyle, diabetes, and cardiovascular risk factors 10 years after bariatric surgery
-
Sjostrom L, Lindroos AK, Peltonen M, et al. Lifestyle, diabetes, and cardiovascular risk factors 10 years after bariatric surgery. N Engl J Med 2004; 351: 2683-2693. This prospective controlled study with good power showed that bariatric surgery seems to be a viable option for the treatment of severe obesity, resulting in long-term weight loss, improved lifestyle, and, except for hypercholesterolemia, amelioration in risk factors.
