Circulation 2004; 109:887-892. In this prospective randomized series, similar results for mortality, morbidity, and completeness of revascularization were obtained; however, endpoints such as length of stay, transfusion rate, time on the ventilator, and myocardial injury were in favor of OPCABG.

Circulation 2005; 111:2858-2864. This American Heart Association scientific statement highlights the current status of the literature on OPCABG vs. CABG. The authors conclude it is essential that large-scale prospective trials be conducted to obtain relevant data and make sound scientific statements on benefit and risk of either procedure.
