It was observed that if the reaction mixture was allowed to stir for longer than 15 min before the addition of the siloxane, significant decomposition resulted. Additionally, if the reaction mixture was quenched before the addition of the siloxane, then only tropolone was recovered, indicating replacement of the bromide by a hydrogen.
