Doxycycline suppresses cerebral matrix metalloproteinase-9 and angiogenesis induced by focal hyperstimulation of vascular endothelial growth factor in a mouse model. Stroke 2004; 35:1715-1719. This study demonstrated that tetracyclines could inhibit MMP-9 in the brain.
