Claudia Meek, "The Scoop on Schools: It's About Time" (Doctoral dissertation, American World University, 2001). Each of the six data logs generated from the 1999-2000 school year is unique. For instance, the first log reflects several large blocks of ongoing time absorbers, such as solving classroom disputes. Such interruptions were factored in at 10 minutes per day in a 180-day year. Likewise, morning announcements, housekeeping tasks, and bells that stop the flow of instruction are factored in at 20 minutes per day. Other logs simply record assemblies, fundraisers, disaster drills, and so on as they occurred throughout the year.
