International Studies in China: Origins and Development
-
Taipei
-
The two articles by Gerald Chan and Song Xinning, respectively, stand as testimonies. In a separate piece, Gerald Chan informs us that the inability to form a genuinely Chinese theorisation on international affairs dates back to pre-modern China. See Gerald Chan, 'International Studies in China: Origins and Development', Issues & Studies, Taipei, Vol. 33 (1997), pp. 40-64.

note

Concise Chinese definitions of IPE are difficult to find. Song Xinning came close to offering one as 'interactions of world politics and economics' in page 21 of his draft paper 'Teaching International Relations in China' at the conference on 'Teaching Social Sciences in East Asia'. However, a broader survey of Chinese literature shows that my own summary is more reflective of the actual state of affairs.
