    • The true equilibrium state of the system investigated here consists of two bulk fluid phases separated by a single flat interface; a thermodynamically negligible fraction of the colloidal particles densely coat this interface, but the rest are spread through the fluid phases with the same uniform volume fraction as in the initial state. This minimizes interfacial area and maximizes colloid entropy.

    • There is an established technology for microreactors based on discrete droplet emulsions, but continuous operation is not possible unless all reagents and products are soluble in the continuous phase [see, e.g., (32)].
