Combined genital prolapse repair reinforced with a polypropylene mesh and tension-free vaginal tape in women with genital prolapse and stress urinary incontinence: a retrospective case-control study with short-term follow-up. Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand 2004; 83:950-954. Small but good study that was controlled. It suggests that occult incontinence patients have more voiding dysfunction if they have a TVT than if they have no additional surgery with prolapse repair.
27. Liang CC, Chang YL, Chang SD, et al. Pessary test to predict postoperative urinary incontinence in women undergoing hysterectomy for prolapse. Obstet Gynecol 2004; 104:795-800. This was the first study to demonstrate that occult incontinence is actually associated with increased POSUI risk. The study demonstrates that TVT prevents POSUI in occult-incontinence patients without significant complication. It also suggests that a negative stress test rules out the risk for POSUI.
