Marret E, Flahault A, Samama C, Bonnet F: Effects of postoperative, nonsteroidal, antiinflammatory drugs on bleeding risk after tonsillectomy. Anesthesiology 2003, 98:1497-1502. Meta-analysis of seven scientific articles where NSAIDs were used in tonsillectomy patients. Postoperative use of classic NSAIDs increases the risk of reoperation for hemostasis after tonsillectomy. Effect of ibuprofen on cardioprotective effect of aspirin
-
MacDonald TM, Wei L: Effect of ibuprofen on cardioprotective effect of aspirin. Lancet 2003, 361:573-574. Article discusses the confirmation that ibuprofen is unique among NSAIDs in antagonizing the influence of aspirin's antiplatelet effect. This raises the issue of whether or not ibuprofen is contraindicated in patients taking aspirin for CAD, TIA, or CVA. The use of diclofenac or selective COX-2 agents has been suggested in these cases.

Anesth Analg 2003, 96:987-994. Elective otolaryngology surgery comparing the COX-2 inhibitors celecoxib and rofecoxib with acetaminophen. Patient satisfaction was higher with celecoxib and rofecoxib than with acetaminophen. Rofecoxib was seen as more cost effective for reducing postoperative pain and improving patient satisfaction than celecoxib or acetaminophen in the ambulatory setting.
