Survival and maturation of microencapsulated porcine neonatal pancreatic cell clusters transplanted into immunocompetent diabetic mice
-
Omer A, Duvivier-Kali VF, Trivedi N, et al. Survival and maturation of microencapsulated porcine neonatal pancreatic cell clusters transplanted into immunocompetent diabetic mice. Diabetes 2003; 52:69-75. This study reports the use of encapsulation technologies to overcome immunological hurdles in the transplantation of pancreatic islets across a xeneogenic barrier. It is the first study to show the differentiation of encapsulated duct cells and the expansion of beta cells in porcine neonatal pancreatic cell clusters post-transplantation into immunocompetent mice.
