5. A Q sort is a projective technique in which subjects sort through a quantity of statements keeping in mind the condition of instruction posed by investigators. Subjects place stories on an 11-point continuum ranging from +5 to -5. The statement choices are distributed over the continuum, and, for example, subjects might be asked to put two statements under the +5 rating, four statements under the +4 rating, etc., until all the statements have been distributed. The largest group of statements would be located in the middle of the continuum and would represent those statements for which subjects did not have a strong feeling either positively or negatively, and they would receive a rating of 0.
