A cluster of mutations in the UMOD gene causes familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy with abnormal expression of uromodulin
-

J Am Soc Nephrol 2003; 14:2883-2893. In patients with familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy, mutations of the uromodulin gene were associated with abnormal accumulation of the gene product within tubular epithelial cells. This provides some insight into the pathophysiological mechanism of this disease.
