Internal impingement: Findings on magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopic evaluation
-
Kaplan LD, McMahon PJ, Towers J, et al. Internal impingement: findings on magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopic evaluation. Arthroscopy 2004; 20:701-704. MRI and arthroscopic findings were present in nine patients being treated for internal impingement symptoms refractory to conservative management. MRI and arthroscopy both revealed an array of posterior labral pathology. MRI showed humeral head signal changes and arthroscopy identified partial-thickness articular-sided tears not visible on MRI.

Quantitative assessment of glenohumeral translation in baseball players: A comparison of pitchers versus nonpitching athletes
-
Sethi PM, Tibone JE, Lee TQ. Quantitative assessment of glenohumeral translation in baseball players: a comparison of pitchers versus nonpitching athletes. Am J Sports Med 2004; 32:1711-1715. This study showed a normal increase in translational motion in the throwing arm compared with the contralateral shoulder in pitchers that was not apparent in non-pitchers. The authors conclude that examination of the contralateral shoulder to guide treatment may be inappropriate in competitive pitchers.

Internal impingement of the shoulder in flexion
